Primary School Organisation
The school caters for the co-educational needs of children from the ages of 5 to 12, and pupils are taught in mixed ability classes. Each class teacher is responsible for the pastoral care of their pupils in conjunction with the hostel parents, but they can also refer to the Headteacher or Deputy Head. Children sit the Secondary School Form 1 tests in Grade 7 and it is important to note that transfer to the Secondary School is not automatic from Chengelo Primary School. Pupils are not entered for the Zambian Grade 7 Examinations.
Chengelo Primary School shares a campus with the Secondary Shool but operates under its own Headteacher. The Primary complex consists of 7 classrooms, a library, a computer room, and a school hall. There are also two hostels and we have our own fields marked out for football, netball and volleyball.
There are 7 grades, with one class at each level. Sometimes the numbers in each class are very small in which case grades may be combined in the earlier years.
Our academic year runs from January to December with three 12-week terms, which are normally each divided into 6-week half terms.
Chengelo has a strong tradition of Outdoor Education to help pupils gain confidence in themselves and their abilities, and appreciate the needs of others. Activities promoting this are often based at Ndubaluba, our Outdoor Education Centre.
An extensive number of sports is offered including:

We believe that specialisation is not to be desired at this stage as young children are developing the basic skills. Pupils are encouraged through curricular and extra-curricular activities to participate in as varied a programme as possible.
